Burke and Hauser walked into the building that served as their office. They spent most of their career at their desks or in interview rooms… until Hauser’s supervisor handed her a case involving abductions a few months before. Hauser hadn’t realized it at the time, but that case was a crux point in her life, where her life wasn’t the same afterward as it was before.

Just the day before, Doc gave Burke a clean bill of health with formal, written instructions for her new dietary guidelines. He also provided his formal assessment of Burke’s ability to return to duty with the Paranormal Branch of their agency. Except… Burke was no longer certain she wanted to return. Still, though, they owed their supervisor a sit-down chat, which led them to return to Washington’s main field office.

Like most federal buildings, the interior resembled every bland office building ever made. Neutral tones everywhere. Now that they had spent so much time around the shifters and how they decorated their lives, the place seemed more than a little depressing.
